Paima Studios launches Web3 engine, bridging legacy gaming on Cardano

Paima Studios announced its Web3 gaming engine is now available for use. The company invited interested developers who may not have Web3 knowledge to get in touch for access.

“We’ve noticed that a lot of companies are trying to get into Web3, especially Web3 gaming. But they don’t necessarily know Plutus; they don’t necessarily know Solidity, so they’re not really able to get into this industry.”

Web3 gaming coming to Cardano

On the latest Cardano360 update, company co-founder Sebastian Guillemot said a Web3 engine is similar to a game engine, such as Unreal Engine.

Game engines use a pre-existing software architecture, allowing developers to configure and optimize their new game within the framework — making the process more manageable and accessible.

Guillemot explained that Paima Studio’s Web3 engine works in much the same way but contains additional features geared toward Web3 gaming, including the function to port games made with legacy programming languages, such as Javascript or Unity, into an on-chain Web3 application.

It also includes additional security features, including non-custodial architecture — meaning code exploits do not expose users’ funds to theft.

In addition, Guillemot spoke of unique features, such as NFTs that can evolve, enabling a high degree of safety and programming flexibility.

He explained this by proposing the use of NFTs as user accounts to store crucial user information, such as wins, losses, history, equipment, etc. By doing so, updates, expansions, and game evolution can be seamlessly implemented without compromising the user experience, as their information is safely preserved within an NFT.

Furthermore, the Web3 engine also supports cross-wallet gameplay so developers can design their game to run on Cardano but still be compatible with other ecosystem wallets — enabling a broader potential audience.

Get in touch

The Paima Studio Web3 engine developer preview was released this month.

To date, over 20 companies have applied for access, many of which come from the Cardano ecosystem, “some of which you may know,” said Guillemot.

However, the company co-founder encouraged other interested parties to request access by using the contact link available on their website.
