Metaplanet Inc., a Japan-based investment firm, is stepping up its Bitcoin game by introducing a new key performance indicator (KPI) called “BTC Yield” to measure the success of its Bitcoin acquisition strategy. Following in the footsteps of MicroStrategy, the tech giant known for its massive Bitcoin investments, Metaplanet aims to boost shareholder value through this innovative approach. Could this bring Bitcoin closer to global adoption?

Importance’s BTC Yield

The BTC Yield tracks the percentage change in the ratio between Metaplanet’s total Bitcoin holdings and its fully diluted shares outstanding, offering a clearer view of the firm’s Bitcoin growth.

By adopting the BTC Yield, Metaplanet provides investors with better transparency regarding how its Bitcoin strategy benefits shareholders. This KPI focuses on how acquiring Bitcoin through equity capital increases shareholder value, making it accretive.

Following MicroStrategy’s successful lead, Metaplanet is using this approach to become a strong contender in Bitcoin, signaling confidence in its growing role in the crypto market.

Microstrategy Bitcoin Investment Strategy

Last week, after Michael Saylor, the founder of MicroStrategy, revealed plans to turn the company into the world’s leading “Bitcoin bank,” its stock (MSTR) jumped nearly 16%, pushing past $212. This surge sent its market capitalization soaring to a record-breaking $43 billion, marking a new all-time high for the company.

MicroStrategy’s “laying down to earn” Bitcoin model has gained attention, inspiring others to follow suit.

Among these is Metaplanet, which has seen a staggering 480% increase in its stock price since adopting a similar Bitcoin investment strategy in April.

Metaplanet Q3 & Q4 2024 Performance

In its third-quarter performance for 2024, Metaplanet reported a BTC Yield of 41.7%, reflecting strong growth in its Bitcoin holdings. The company continued this trend into the fourth quarter, achieving a BTC Yield of 116.4% to date, further highlighting the rapid increase in its Bitcoin acquisitions.

Such massive growth reflects that Metaplanet’s strategy is working effectively, with the firm accumulating more Bitcoin relative to its share base.
