American fast-food giant, McDonald’s is celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year festival by creating a zodiac collection in the Metaverse.

According to available information, the fast-food company joined forces with Humberto Leon, the co-founder of a foremost fashion brand Opening Ceremony, to develop “a one-of-a-kind collection of zodiac animal designs.”

McDonald’s and Humberto Leon partners

The partnership between these two international brands is aimed at creating a virtual reality experience in honor of the festival, dubbed the Year of the Tiger.

The designs would be created by Humberto Leon, a Chinese-Peruvian American whose cross-cultural identity comes to the fore in the designs.

Customers would be able to access Leon’s design by visiting the life-like exhibit on virtual reality social platforms, AltspaceVR and Spatial, where they can also receive horoscopic readings of their year ahead based on their year of birth and their zodiac animal.

Speaking on this development, McDonald’s Senior Director of Cultural Engagement, Elizabeth Campbell, says that there can’t be a better time for her company to enter the Metaverse than now. This, according to her, is because the Year of the Tiger is a representation of bravery, strength, and confidence.

In her words, “We’re excited to reach our fans in a meaningful way that captures the essence of the Year of Tiger showcasing bravery, strength and confidence through art, while leveraging a digital experience that meets them in spaces they enjoy.”

It should be added that McDonald’s and Leon would also be partnering to create a TV spot that would be centered around the designer’s view on the Lunar New Year Traditions.

The Chinese Lunar New Year festival is an annual festival that marks the arrival of the new cycle of the Moon in the country. The celebrations and festivities for the event can run up to 15 days.

McDonald’s crypto drive

During the recent crypto market crash, crypto traders started sharing memes about getting jobs at McDonald’s with prominent names in crypto spaces like El Salvador’s president, Nayib Bukele, MicroStrategy’s Michael Saylor and others joining in on the joke.

The firm quickly acknowledged this development in the crypto space through a tweet where it asked how the crypto community was faring.

The richest man in the world, Elon Musk, also partook in the exchange on Twitter saying he was going to eat a McDonald’s Happy Meal on TV, if the restaurant started accepting Doge as a form of payment for its foods.

The restaurant, however, responded that it was going to accept the coin only when Musk’s Tesla accepts “Grimacecoin.”
