Revolut Teams Up With Polkadot to Teach Crypto 101

Revolut has entered the crypto educational sector with a new initiative designed to foster “financial literacy.” The program, which will teach crypto newcomers the basics of digital assets, starts with a primer on all things Polkadot  – and there’s $15 of DOT up for grabs.

Crypto saving app and debit card service Revolut has been quietly growing its market share while expanding its range of services. Its latest “Learn & Earn” initiative is sure to prove popular with app users, who are unlikely to turn up their noses at the prospect of free cryptocurrency. In the process, it will raise awareness of Polkadot, the web3 blockchain founded by Gavin Wood.

Level Up Your Crypto Chops

Coinbase Earn, the US exchange’s popular educational series that awars participants nominal amounts of crypto, appears to have inspired Revolut’s Learn & Earn. During market downturns, which the industry is currently experiencing, money-making opportunities diminish. While taking part in Revolut’s maiden educational course won’t be the stuff that riches are made of, it’s still essentially money for nothing. And with further courses and rewards in the works, the earnings could stack up.

As Revolut has expanded the number of cryptocurrencies it supports, there’s been a need to guide newcomers into the workings and merits of each one. This is common sense from an ethical perspective, and also from a business one as it encourages informed decision-making. The first short course, themed around Polkadot, will culminate in a quiz, with successful completion earning the participant $15 worth of DOT.

The first module, titled Crypto Basics, commences with an overview of how blockchains work and what differentiates cryptocurrency from fiat currency. Then it’s on to all things Polkadot: use cases, the role the DOT token plays, governance, and how the Polkadot relay chain connects with all parachains.

Knowledge Is Power

“There’s a huge appetite from our customers to learn more about cryptocurrencies,” said Revolut Crypto General Manager Emil Urmashin. “‘Learn & Earn‘ will help them better understand the trends, risks and potential opportunities associated with crypto. Our collaboration with Web3 Foundation on Polkadot, one of the most popular blockchain networks, will help customers become more familiar with crypto concepts.”

Having introduced over 40 cryptocurrencies to its app this year alone, taking the total number of supported assets to around 80, there’s a clear case for Revolut educating consumers on what differentiates digital currencies. If its customers can earn a little pocket change along the way, it will be a win for all parties.
