Sui aims to become the “Internet Coordination Layer,” says Mysten Labs Co-Founder

In a recent EAK-TV interview at Token 2049, Adeniyi Abiodun, co-founder of Mysten Labs, shared his vision for Sui blockchain and its potential to revolutionize the internet. The interview, conducted by Erhan Korhaliller, CEO of EAK Digital, delved into Sui’s unique features, its competition in the blockchain space, and the upcoming Sui Play OX1 gaming device.

Sui as an Internet Coordination Layer

Abiodun emphasized Sui’s ambition to become more than just another blockchain:

“Sui isn’t just a blockchain, Sui is a global coordination layer for the internet. So our target addressable market is way bigger than Solana, Taun, and all these other platforms.”

He explained that Sui aims to create a new layer for internet agreement, enabling coordination of digital assets at scale. This vision extends beyond traditional cryptocurrency use cases, positioning Sui as a trillion-dollar opportunity to fill gaps in the current internet infrastructure.

Technical Superiority and Scalability

Highlighting Sui’s technical capabilities, Abiodun stated:

“Sui doesn’t have a maximum throughput, so Sui can do, in a minimal configuration, a mainnet can do over 290,000 transactions per second. You had eight times the hardware, you get eight times the throughput, no increase in latency.”

This scalability, combined with half-second transaction finality, puts Sui “in a different league” compared to its competitors, according to Abiodun.

Developer Experience and Adoption

Abiodun emphasized the importance of developer experience in Sui’s design:

“Devs are learning to program in Sui within three to four days. That is game-changing. The fact that you as a dev can pick up a programming language and become adept on it very, very quickly, that is unlike any other platform in the market.”

He mentioned that developers from other platforms, such as Solana, have praised Sui’s developer experience as a significant improvement.

Sui Play OX1 and Gaming Integration

The interview touched on the Sui Play OX1, a handheld gaming device that integrates deeply with the Sui ecosystem. Abiodun explained:

“The Sui Play would be the flagship hardware. It would be a great price, amazingly good hardware, with a world-class operating system. And the operating system, the Playtron OS, is going to be on multiple devices.”

He revealed partnerships with major game developers like Square Enix and predicted that by 2030, the majority of games will have wallet integration, with Sui aiming to have “by far the most amount of wallets in any other ecosystem in the world.”

Exciting Projects and Future Narratives

Abiodun highlighted several projects being built on Sui, including DEX aggregators leveraging Sui’s unique features, NFT innovations from Studio Mirai and Animal Labs, and Warus, a global storage layer for the internet.

Looking ahead, he emphasized the importance of delivering real value:

“I think crypto needs to actually start delivering on value… We’re going to see the emergence of mass consumer adoption on Sui that you’ve never seen before in web 3.”

Challenges and Market Outlook

Despite Sui’s rapid growth, Abiodun acknowledged the challenge of continuing to expand developer adoption. He expressed optimism about the crypto market’s future, particularly after the upcoming elections:

“I think the bull cycle will happen, leading towards the end of this year, after the elections, and leading us towards the majority of next year as well.”

Conclusion

As Sui positions itself as a transformative force in the blockchain space, Abiodun’s interview provided insights into the platform’s ambitious goals and technical capabilities. With its focus on scalability, developer experience, and integration with real-world applications like gaming, Sui aims to drive mass adoption of blockchain technology and reshape the internet’s infrastructure.
