Winklevoss twins, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez still bullish on crypto

On two separate occasions, both the billionaire Winklevoss Twins and Miami’s Mayor Francis Suarez expressed their bullish attitude toward the crypto market, even after the fallout following the Terra LUNA scandal.

While the twins choose to increase their investments in crypto startups, Suarez continues to receive his salary in Bitcoin (BTC). They do so because they believe in the technology behind crypto.

Winklevoss twins increase investments

Fundraising for crypto and blockchain startups significantly declined after the recent LUNA-related crash. The Winklevoss twins stepped up to take advantage of this decline and accelerated their investments in various crypto startups.

Cameron Winklevoss commented on the investments and said:

“We believe in investing in the next generation of builders and visionaries who are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. They are risk takers who want to build a better human experience and aren’t afraid to think big and fail greatly.”

The brothers choose to hold on to their investments in cryptocurrencies and crypto companies. During the first days of the market collapse, Tyler tweeted:

Two days later, Cameron backed his brother up and tweeted:

40-year-old billionaire twins Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss co-founded Gemini and have a combined fortune of $6,4 billion. They are also amongst the largest Bitcoin holders and have invested in 50 crypto or blockchain startups.

Suarez holds on to his salary in Bitcoin

Miami’s Mayor Francis Suarez recently spoke about the future of crypto at The World Economic Forum.

He was asked if he’d choose to receive his salary in Bitcoin if he knew the LUNA crash would happen. Suarez said:

“Yes, and I am still taking my salary in Bitcoin. I will note for the record that it’s not my only salary. I think it’s a different decision than if a person was deciding to take their salary in Bitcoin if it was the only source of income for them.”

He continued to talk about his optimistic approach to the market. He said:

“I have the luxury of being able to think long in terms of my investment in Bitcoin.[…] I don’t focus strictly on the price.  If you’ve looked at the price historically at Bitcoin, there is only been a few years where the price has gone down almost invariably. Every single year the price goes up and it goes up significantly. [..] What I focus on is the base technology.”

Mayor Suarez’s attitude towards cryptocurrencies has been positive for a long time. He continues to work to make Miami a crypto-friendly environment. Currently, his office is working on allowing businesses to pay their taxes in crypto.
