X Adds Payments Feature To Latest Dev Code Release, Will Dogecoin Payments Follow?

In a recent development, the X (formerly Twitter) platform has included the payments feature in its latest software release. This has once again raised questions about whether or not Dogecoin payments will be included when the payment service finally goes live.

X Payments Now In The Development Stage

X user Swakshan, known for posting leaks of upcoming features from various applications, revealed in X post that the X payments feature was already in the development stage. This means that the social media platform is forging ahead with its plans to launch its payment service, with an update featuring the payments feature possibly made public later this year.

Dogecoin payments X

Last year, X owner Elon Musk revealed plans to turn the X platform into an ‘everything app’ with the payment service standing out as one of the highlights of this master plan. Since then, X has acquired money-transmitting licenses in various states in the United States as part of its plan to launch the payment service.

So far, the social media platform has acquired licenses in 35 states, with the latest coming from North Dakota. That means that X has 15 more states to go, and the acquisition of licenses in these remaining states will pave the way for the launch of the payments feature. However, it remains to be seen how soon these remaining licenses will be acquired.

Meanwhile, the launch of the X payments feature is of particular interest to the crypto community because of speculations that Dogecoin payments will be included in this payment service. Musk’s fondness and vocal support of the foremost meme coin is why DOGE community members believe that Dogecoin will be integrated into the X payment service.

Musk has yet to confirm whether Dogecoin payments will be integrated into the X payment service. However, it remains a possibility since Musk had discussed the idea of using DOGE for his payment service, as revealed in his biography

What The Development Code Says About Dogecoin Payments

Swakshan also revealed some key web URLs related to the X payments development code. Based on his revelation, there was no indication that Dogecoin payments would be included in the payment feature. However, a web URL (/i/payments/verify-payment-method) confirms that several payment methods will be available, of which Dogecoin could be among them.

In the meantime, members of the Dogecoin community will simply have to wait for a confirmation from the X platform about whether Dogecoin will be integrated as a payment method. Dogecoin influencer Mishaboar also recently confirmed to a community member that there is no confirmation about the Dogecoin payments beyond the rumors and speculation.

Meanwhile, it is worth mentioning that Musk again recently reaffirmed his fondness for Dogecoin, stating that he has a “soft spot” for the meme coin because he likes dogs and memes. At the same time, he remarked that he has no affinity for Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies, meaning that Dogecoin could well be the only crypto Musk and the X team integrate when the payments service launches.
